Filming Day

This a picture of the group at one of the shooting locations, as shown all the group members were present.
As planned we filmed on the 12th of December. All the group agreed that the filming went well, in my opinion, to be honest they went better than expected. I say this because of past experience. I thought that we would find some difficulties however we didn't find anything that we could not solve. There was some fog in the morning so we decided to film all indoors scenes first and then when we went outside to film the fog was clear.
I also like the quality of the footage we filmed. We worked in a more technical way, by adjust focus in many shot so we could get the footage desired, so in my opinion we got better footage than i expected and this will be great for the editing and also the final result of the music video.

Music videos that contributed to our music video

this video has a lot of close shots which relates to the music video we going to make and from it i was able to get some Ideas of the better angles to get those shots. the lighting in some shots in this music videos relates to the one we need to record a scene. Some people may find it offensive for the fact that some guys in the music video is beating him up however we also have a similar problem because in our video music we going to use Qur'an and some people may find that offensive.

I5n this video i could find a lot of features related to the Christian religion, in the beginning there is a cross in fire we not willing to create anything controversial. The music video we going to do is related to religions in general so we ensuing to not focus only in one. "Bad Religions" the music lyrics and the title of the music relates a lot with religious specially islamic because the taxi drive and Frank being both islamic however that is not our main focus, trying to build tension around the story not focusing too much in the religious. on the other hand we cant run totally away from the topic of the music which is him being not accepted by the different religious.

Evidence

I carried out a secondary research about the top music videos on YouTube based on demographics factors and I could find something really interesting. The top 4 music videos have the same female audience age range 13-17 this finding is very important to the group as we could focus on that age range as it shows that they are the most interest audience, however only one music video don’t relate to the others in relation to the Male audience “Shakira-waka waka” which differs from the others. This just shows which audience age we should focus on which is female, 13-17 years and males 13-17 years.

Shakira - waka waka
Female, 13-17 years
Male, 35-44 years
Male, 45-54 years

Psy-Gangnam Style
Female, 13-17 years
Male, 13-17 years
Male, 18-24 years

Rihanna ft. Eminem-love the way you lie
Female, 13-17 years
Male, 13-17 years
Male, 18-24 years

Justin Bieber-Baby
Female, 13-17 years

How the Research Contributed to the Music Video

Target audience
After analysing the results from our primary and secondary research some conclusions were reached. The first conclusion reached and a point that will be vital for our strategy is that our main target audience should be females between that age of 16 and 25. This conclusion was reached as during our secondary research we found that the main audience of RnB (genre of music sang by the artist of our song choice, Frank Ocean) are females between the age of 13 and 25. Also, The Weekend, which is artist who sings in a style similar to Frank Ocean, has a main audience that consists in women between 13 and 24. However I say that we should focus on over 16 because the matter of the song and what we want to show in the music video should be addressed to an older audience. This opinion is also influenced by the results in our questionnaire, which proved that females actually pay attention to the storyline of the music video, however 0% of males pay attention to the storyline. We want our music video to have a storyline, so we should aim at those who will actually pay attention to it which are females. Another reason for women to be the main target audience is because homosexuality is a sensible matter, and in my opinion women are more comprehensive than the majority of men when it comes to these matters.
Production of the video

Our research helped to support our idea of keeping the music simple when it comes to effects and try to cause more impact with what is shown and with creativity.  This is because 50 % of the people who answered the questionnaire said that they also watch music videos because of the lyrics. In the focus group these two opinions were given ““I like music videos that correlate with the lyrics”; “I don’t like music videos that are distractive”. In the second opinion the candidate was trying to say that she does not like music videos that distract the audience from the lyrics. So due to these findings we will keep our idea of correlating the music video to the lyrics and keep it simple and unique so the message expressed on the lyrics is not lost.

2 Columns StoryBoard

The 2 columns storyboard is a way of storyboarding which is has a layout of two columns "Video | Audio". when using the 2-columns storyboard there is no need of drawing as it basically consists in writing. in comparison with the sketch storyboard it is much faster and as detailed.  The 2-columns Storyboard just substitutes the sketches to words and there is also the possibility of sketching or adding pictures. in my opinion the 2 columns storyboard is very useful making it much easier to storyboard.

I had a go storyboarding using the 2columns storyboard and i found it much more useful as i put my ideas of the shots in words making it much quicker than the previous storyboard i did. all the features needed to produce a effective storyboard can be written however i received some feedbacks of what could be improved so the next time i do it it will be much more effective and detailed.
What went wrong- I didn't write a pitch/ summary and the time range i wrote wasn't too specific (5s)
basically this are the things i need to improve so next time i am going to write the summary and used a different way of showing the length of the shots (e.g. 00:00- 00:05)

Planning

The 26th to 30th is the researching week as the group decide to finish everything related to the research in that week, (the questionnaire, focus group and secondary research) however the copyright permission will also be done.
the locations Reece, risk assessment and permission to use the location will be done in the week after and the group set a deadline for Wednesday 5th. To avoid inconveniences in the filming date, the group is going to make the artist (actor) knows the lyrics ensuring that he as it is a male rehearsal to insure he is familiar with the process.
The story pitch and storyboard  will be done in the week after filming so when it comes to the filming day so we know the shots and the angles if takes too long we may forget the angles and have to always check the story board by doing it days before we ensuring that when we actually filming at least the group as an Idea of what is going to be filmed.
The deadline for filming is going to be on Wednesday 19th December 2013 however based on the deadline when going to be filming on the Wednesday before , 12th. the group decide to film on this date as we still have a week for contingency plan in case anything don't work out appropriately.

Questionnaire for the music video Questionnaire

Monday, 19 November 2012

Research Plan

The group is going to start with the questionnaires, 20(10 males and 10 females) to be specific and we are going to focus on what people like the most at the moment and features that the audience would like to see in the music video to make it more spontaneous we going to base in the questionnaire to find out the features which could be introduced, the questionnaires is going to help to find out our  audience for the music video. The research is going to continue with the focus group where  about 5 people is going to participate and it is the questions is going to be based on the questionnaire and the secondary research, in the focus group the group is hoping to get detailed information about what the audience specially teens is looking for.  the focus group will provide a lot of people's different opinions which is going to be useful when producing the music videos. we going to do some secondary research to find out what interest the audience the most videos with the most views and what are the mains audience in the different videos.

Notes in the Music lyrics

[Verse 1]
Taxi driver
Be my shrink for the hour
Leave the meter running
It's rush hour
So take the streets if you wanna
Just outrun the demons, could you

[Hook]
He said "
Allah hu akbar", I told him don’t curse me
"Bo Bo, you need prayer" - I guess it couldn't hurt me
If it brings me to my knees
It's a bad religion
This unrequited love
To me it's nothing but a one-man cult
And cyanide in my Styrofoam cup
I can never make him love me
Never make him love me

Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love

[Verse 2]
Taxi driver
I swear I've got three lives
Balanced on my head like steak knives
I can't tell you the truth about my disguise
I can't trust no one

[Hook]

[Outro]
It's a bad religion
To be in love with someone
Who could never love you
I know
Only bad religion
Could have me feeling the way I do

[Verse 1]
Taxi driver
Be my shrink for the hour
Leave the meter running
It's rush hour
So take the streets if you wanna
Just outrun the demons, could you

[Hook]
He said "

"Bo Bo, you need prayer" - I guess it couldn't hurt me
If it brings me to my knees
It's a bad religion
This unrequited love
To me it's nothing but a one-man cult
And cyanide in my Styrofoam cup
I can never make him love me
Never make him love me

Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love

[Verse 2]
Taxi driver
I swear I've got three lives
Balanced on my head like steak knives

I can't trust no one

[Hook]

[Verse 1]
Taxi driver
Be my shrink for the hour
Leave the meter running
It's rush hour
So take the streets if you wanna
Just outrun the demons, could you

With this I could guess that the singer is talking to a taxi driver and by saying “be my shrink for the hour” it may imply that the singer wants someone to listen to his problems without judging him as he wants someone to listen to what he has to say, it may be something that he can’t trust anyone that he knows by talking to a stranger “the Taxi driver” which could also give him a point of view from someone that don’t know much about the situation he is going through he continues by saying “leave the meter running” this shows that even without having a destination he will pay for the journey and showing that he don’t know how long the travel is going to be so he could have time to tell the Taxi Driver everything he wants to, as it was a rush hour which may imply it was traffic and could take longer than normal. The artist suggests that the Taxi Drive could take the streets where the traffic would be slow in giving him time to speak everything.
“Just outrun the demons, could you” this phrase suggests a lot of things one of would be that he wants to get away from the people that may judge him from what he wants to tell the Taxi drive, also could imply that the artist wants the driver to take him far from the people he knows leaving these people behind.

[Hook]
He said "
Allah hu akbar", I told him don't curse me
"Bo Bo, you need prayer" - I guess it couldn't hurt me
If it brings me to my knees
It's a bad religion
This unrequited love
To me it's nothing but a one-man cult
And cyanide in my Styrofoam cup
I can never make him love me
Never make him love me

The Taxi driver answer the artist in Arabic “Allah Hu Akbar” by this we can conclude that the driver speaks Arabic as the driver said a Muslim prayer meaning “God is great” in English could suggest that the Taxi driver is from the Islamic religion which is common in the U.S people that emigrate from the Islamic background got to taxi business showing that he was concerned about the artist.
The artist answer the taxi driver thinking that he was cursing him for what I may have said or have to say not knowing that he was a Muslim prayer.
Again the Driver reaffirms that the artist needs prayer and in that line the driver used the word “Bo Bo” for what I could find out it is the same as addressing someone younger by Boy/Kid in some African mode.
The conversation continues with the artist saying that the prayer wouldn’t hurt him, I didn’t understand what he meant by saying that but I can consider that a sarcastic answer as he knows the religions don’t accept him for what he is and even with a prayer God wouldn’t forgive him. The artist consider that the religions that brings him to his knees is a bad religion as he have to beg for forgiveness humiliating because the it doesn’t accept him for what he is and also shows that he loves god even knowing that he won’t be love back uses “unrequited” to describe the love between him and God.
“Cults are often formed around a charismatic leader who doesn’t really care about his followers and just uses them to advance his own agenda without truly devoting himself to them”
The Cyanide in his Styrofoam cup is a reference to Jim Jones, the man who originated the “People’s Temple” cult or “religion” as it was called. Jim Jones killed himself and the majority of his followers by forcing them to drink Kool-Aid poisoned with cyanide in the ‘70s. This actually gave rise to the phrase “drinking the Kool-Aid”, which means you’ve been blindly convinced to believe something or someone
The next line he showing that is losing his hope about making God love him twice by saying “I can never make him love me
Never make him love me”

Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love me
Love

This shows that he telling God to love him to accept him the way he his repeating several times to demonstrate he is harassment and sufferings.
Taxi driver
I swear I've got three lives
Balanced on my head like steak knives
I can't tell you the truth about my disguise
I can't trust no one

Continues his conversation with the taxi driver by saying that he got three lives, maybe he his referring to the fact that he is not sure about his sexuality and the three lives would be about being Bisexual, Straight or Gay.
I can tell you the Truth about my disguise” this shows that he can’t even trust the driver to tell him everything about his sexuality. It also implies that the artist don’t trust no one not even a stranger to tell what is going on in his life which is depressing and It’s hard to trust people with this secret.
